Happy New Year to you all!  Our Christmas Party was very well attended and the competitions held on the day raised over £40 to go toward more games for activity sessions.  Keen to keep up the momentum after the Christmas festivities, some of our residents were transported (through the gales) to the pantomime at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, on Tuesday 3 January 2012 and had a great time (oh yes they did!).

Latest News - Dementia Quality Mark

DQM Certificate
Awarded October 2011

We are delighted to have achieved the ‘Dementia Quality Mark' awarded by Plymouth City Council, Adult Social Care.  We received  the  certificate with a letter of recognition from Debbie Butcher, the Head of Strategic Commissioning, for the amount of work involved in obtaining this award with a ‘thank you’ for our commitment to People with Dementia in Plymouth.  We understand we are 1 of only7 care homes in Plymouth who have achieved this award.

The award recognises:

*  A sound approach to person centred care and to quality assurance
* The home's commitment to year on year improvement in the care it
   provides to people with dementia

This achievement is the latest addition to our list of awards which highlights our aim to 'strive to be the best' as a commitment to the people who live, work for and visit Copper Beeches.  Our care home remains full although we still welcome viewings as rooms do become available and there are plans for additional rooms in the future.

Plymouth in Bloom!

Highly Commended
Another year has passed and despite extra effort made by staff, residents and the new 'Gardening Club',  run by John and Joyce Trusell, we achieved another 'highly commended' this year.  Nicola, our Social Care Supervisor, with Sammy, one of our residents, attended the award ceremony  held at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth on Friday 29th September 2011.

Summer Garden Party!

Doris_wins_ClareOn Saturday 27 August we held a Garden Party to enjoy the summer blooms and to celebrate the remainder of the summer with friends and families of Copper Beeches.

It was very well attended and 'guess the weight of the cake' was won by Barbara (who donated her prize of the cake to the raffle), 'guess the name of the teddy' was won by Doris and Tui won 'guess the number of sweets' which she gave to the staff.  Tui also presented bouquets to Dorota (Head Cook) and Clare and Nicola (Social Care Coordinators), who all worked hard organising and planning the day.

There were numerous prizes donated to the raffle and over £130 was raised to go towards the purchase of new interactive activities for the people living at the home to enjoy.

Blooming Great Tea Party

Party BunsCopper Beeches joined others throughout the UK by holding their own 'Blooming Great Tea Party'  on the 30th June in aid of the Marie Curie  Cancer Care Fund.  £100 was raised for the charity from donations received at the party.

Friends and familes joined the residents and staff of Copper Beeches, enjoying the musical entertainment from Brian Jones, refreshments and the party buns baked specially for the occasion by one of our Cooks.

Birthday Celebrations!

BT18_Birthday1It is the custom to celebrate birthdays at Copper Beeches and a celebratory cake is always baked for the occasion and enjoyed by all at tea time.  However, should families wish to celebrate in their own way we are happy to assist in providing something a little extra special, such was the case when Barbara’s family and friends wanted just that in recognition of her 87th year on the 16th May 2011.   The party was enjoyed by all and the entertainment, party food and bucks fizz added that extra sparkle to the event.  The party also marked the occasion of being Frances's last official duty as Mayor (see photo opposite).

Earlier News

On the 10th March 2011 our catering facilities were inspected under the new ‘Scores on the Door’ scheme and we achieved the highest score possible – a 5!  We are thrilled with our two Cooks who have gained us this award.  We have always been committed to the highest standards – my philosophy being that it must be good enough for me to enjoy for it to be good enough for anyone else.  See the Cuisine Page to find out more.
